Greetings!

Thank you to everyone that participated in our debut of the Home Improvement Show on March 27-28.

We are already working hard to build your business at our next Home Improvement Show on August 28-29, 2010. Please contact us to reserve your booth!

We understand that this time of the year is a busy season for this industry. Spring fever has caught hold of many homeowners as they look for ways to improve their properties. While you may be booked for now, don't lose sight of preparations for the future. Any successful company knows that growth is only achieved by always looking forward and never getting too comfortable with their current status. Let us help you invest in your company's future by putting you face to face with quality clients!

We hope everyone had a Happy Mother's Day to celebrate the special mothers in your life. Use this special occasion to help families turn their home into a sanctuary for the hard working mamas out there!
Each month we plan to feature a photo of a remodel or project by one of our Home Improvement Show exhibitors. The "photo of the month" is shown as the header of the newsletter, adjacent to the Home Improvement Shows, Inc. logo.

Home Improvement Show: Review

Wow! What an exciting month March was! The show was beautiful thanks to those companies that participated in our first show back in March!

The information we received from the registration slips and from the vendors showed that we were successful in bringing in quality homeowners who were definitely spending money for home improvements and who had the money to spend. Forty three percent (43%) of the homeowners have been in their home over 10 years. We are thrilled to be working with our current exhibitors and with new companies who are participating in the August show to build a more upscale event. With our previous experience in the local home improvement arena, we are confident the numbers will increase as the show grows. With our continued efforts, we will work to bring in more quality vendors with professional displays. As a result, qualified homeowners will be present.

We produce a different show. We do require each company exhibiting in the show to provide us a current certificate of insurance, which brings in professional companies and also helps the homeowner feel safer in doing business with those companies in our shows. We limit categories in our shows so that every company has the opportunity to get great results.

We are local and have excellent local media relationships and have since 1988. We are consistent in advertising and marketing our shows properly every show. As in building any business, you must be consistent every time for your business to grow.

The next Home Improvement Show is coming up August 28-29, at the Dallas Convention Center. Sign up now to reserve your space in this exciting new event! We look forward to seeing you there and helping you build your business. Please make note of the 2011 dates: February 19-20 and August 27-28.

Naomi's Notes: "Getting and Working Leads"

Whether you are participating in a consumer trade show, placing print ads, billboards, radio, television, internet, or other sources of advertising, your main goal is to get good quality leads that hopefully produce solid sales. However, getting those leads is just the first step!

When exhibiting in a consumer trade show, passing out information is good, but not complete on its own. The companies who train their staff on how to work a show properly will always get better results. In the past 22 years of producing shows, along with mentoring many companies, I have seen a pattern of professionals getting too comfortable and not working their leads effectively. Years ago it seemed to be easier. More customers would call after a show to do business with the companies that exhibited. It now takes more effort to get their business. Times have changed, and companies must adapt in order to achieve success.

There are so many things to discuss in regards to working a show effectively. The following are just a few suggestions that we mention in our Exhibiting 101 seminar.

  1. Stand instead of sitting behind a table. When you stand, you are at eye level as the homeowners are approaching your booth, which gives them a good first impression when they see your display and company name.
  2. Smile. Show you care about helping them with your facial and body language. So many times a company will get the business because of a smile and a caring attitude, no matter what the price is.
  3. Ask questions that qualify them for your product or service. This will help you know if they are a hot lead (A leads), medium lead (B leads), or a cold/backburner lead (C leads).
  4. Have your calendar and appointment book available. Set appointments and take deposits when you can.
  5. Be professional in every aspect. Consumers will look to professionals when times are tough so that they can feel confident they are spending their money wisely.

Don't wait for them to call you! After a show, either call, mail, or email your "A leads" first, then move to "B and C leads." One of the main reasons some companies do not do well from shows is that they do not properly work their leads. Many times I have heard someone tell me that they tried 3 or 4 times to contact their leads and quit. As stated in our October 2008 Bridal Shows newsletter, you need to contact someone 27 times which really only means 9 times. Click here for that article.

Email marketing is a big part of our tech-savvy world and can be a very effective tool. If you are doing mass emails, be sure to check with your mass email service for their restrictions.

The key is to not give up unless someone tells you to go away. In the home improvement world, I have heard of homeowners keeping someone's information for up to 7 years. Continually being creative and keeping your name in front of potential customers will always do better for you. One idea is to have a newsletter with seasonal specials throughout the year.

Create a daily system, stick to it, and have fun working your leads!

Testimonials

"Bath Fitter works consistently to find quality events to reach clientele.  We are always happy and proud to participate in an event like The Home Improvement Show.  We reached quality people with excellent results.  Since we tract every detail of an event from how many appointments we booked, to how much product we sold, we can say with confidence that this opportunity was successful.  Our products and displays are quality, we shared the exhibit hall proudly with our peers. The show is managed with the kind of industry organizational "know how" and professionalism a vendor hopes to see."

"Statewide Remodeling was excited to have the opportunity to participate in the New Home Improvement Show at the Dallas Convention Center last March. All the vendors had good looking displays making the atmosphere upscale.  The show produced some quality leads that have resulted in sales for our company. As the word gets out on this show look for more and more traffic. We look forward to exhibiting in the summer show."

"I wanted to tell you how much we were impressed with the quality job you and your staff did for us at the Home Improvement Show. I have displayed in many "first" shows over the years, just to give them a try, and yours was one of the best ever. We will definitely be back for the next show. The quality of shoppers coming through that front door was great. We have already completed jobs from the leads we aquired from the show. Thanks for your desire to bring a real home improvement show to the public. One of my sales guys ask me, "Where are all the carnies?" That said alot to me, I told him, "This is a home improvement Show!!"

Thanks, and keep up the good work!!"

"Our relationship with Naomi began in 1991 when we first opened our company, and continues today. As owners of a swimming pool remodeling company, we exhibited regularly in all her shows. Naomi's work ethic, commitment to excellence in advertising and attention to detail in the overall design and quality of the shows produced not only great traffic, but also a higher quality of potential customers.

After her departure from Home Improvement Show business, the overall industry seemed somewhat diminished. We continued to exhibit in the other shows but the results were not the same that we had experienced when Naomi was "running the show." Naomi set the bar and made the competition work harder.

We are thrilled that she is back. The high standards she sets for herself, her company, the industry and the exhibitors produced the results, we desired for our company in the past. We trust that she will again exceed our expectations, and we look forward to our continued relationship with many successful events in the future!"
