August Newsletter
8/23/10
 Copyright by
Naomi Hulme, CEM, 2010
Greetings!

Summer is winding down, but things are still heating up! We hope everyone is having a relaxing, yet profitable season. When is the last time you contacted all of your former clients? Keep those relationships in tact with frequent check-ups. Give your contacts a call and find out how you can help them with a new project, and while you are at it, ask for at least 3 referrals. Always be reaching out for new business, but remember that your current database is a treasure chest, and although you may have to hunt, there is gold to be found! Don't miss out on repeat or new business for lack of trying, and remember it always takes some "no's" before you hit that big rewarding "YES!"

Spaces are still available for the upcoming Home Improvement Show, August 28-29, at the Dallas Convention Center (Hall A). Call us today to find out how meeting face-to-face with quality leads can change your business!
Each month we plan to feature a photo of a remodel or project by one of our Home Improvement Show exhibitors. The "photo of the month" is shown as the header of the newsletter, adjacent to the Home Improvement Shows, Inc. logo.

 Naomi's Notes: "Balance"

How do you balance your work with everything else?

For most business owners, this is one area that is the most challenging. Daily circumstances can change that day's schedule in many ways. The best solution is to prioritize each day and keep in mind all relationships that are important to you.

Imagine someone on a balance beam who is on one foot and trying to remain steady. It takes a lot of focus on the task at hand to remain calm and still.

Try this standing with arms out, with your right foot on the floor and the left leg up with the knee bent and the left foot angled down and then hold it for 30 seconds. Switch to the other side and do the same. If you have trained your core muscles to handle this, then it is much easier. If you haven't trained those core muscles, then you will have a little more difficult time holding it for 30 seconds. While you are balancing, think about today's schedule and focus on the top three areas that are most important today.

Schedule in each day something that helps toward balancing at least two areas of your life. It takes a little up-front preparation, and you may make adjustments along the way. At the end of the week, review what you accomplished in this balancing technique. By continuing to train yourself and make the effort to work on this every day, it will help you feel more balanced at the end of each week. Going into the next week will be less stressful.

These are just a few of the areas to balance (put them in your order of importance today): your business, immediate family, extended family, health, friends, spiritual, emotional, personal growth, errands/to-do list, time for self, vacation, and other topics.

Every year that order of importance can change, depending on what life brings and depending on what you bring to your life. Just keep balance in mind no matter what life throws at you.
